Morapaya Royal Temple is situated in scenic Padiyapalalle in between Rikillagaskada and Walapane. In the list of temples, its listed as Sagama, Pasgama, Araththana, Madanwala, Wilwala, Kadadora and then Morapaya. This temple is famous for its golden Buddha statue. The temple which is mentioned in the “Tale of Mandaram” is situated on the banks of Belihuloya. At the end of the 16th century the temple was destroyed from a landslide due to heavy rains. It was later re built a little away from its original location. As per history the Morapaya Raja MahaViharaya was built by king Buwanekaba the 6th.
