SRI DALADA MALIGAWA GETS READY TO CELEBRATE World Tourism Day - 2025

UNWTO has identified education and skills as the foundation for building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable tourism sector. For World Tourism Day 2025, UNWTO emphasizes the importance of investing in people through training, innovation, and digital transformation to ensure tourism benefits all. This year’s call is for governments, international organizations, and private sector partners to unite in shaping a skilled workforce for the future of global tourism.

Sri Lanka continues to be one of the most attractive destinations in the world, drawing a large number of foreign visitors each year. Among its treasures, Kandy’s Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) remains a world-renowned must-visit destination for international travelers.

  • Showing Elephant Bathing and Given the Opportunity to Bathe and Feeding.

  • Refreshment.

Afternoon event - at 11.30 AM - 01.30 Pm

  • Key Speech from Special Guest.

  • Sri Lankan Traditional Industry Demonstration and Preparing Experience.

  • Cultural Show. (Two dancing segments).

  • Refreshment with Sri Lankan Traditional Sweets and Drinks at King’s Court of Ehalepola Walawwa.

  • Photobooth and Souvenir Handover by Sri Lanka Tourism Officials.

Event Summary

World Tourism Day celebrations that took place today at Sri Lanka's iconic Sri Dalada Maligawa were certainly a success.

Today is world tourism day. A large number of foreign tourists visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, which is respected and given special attention as one of the leading destinations for foreign tourists coming to Sri Lanka from all over the world. Accordingly, a special celebration ceremony was held at the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy on the occasion of this World Tourism Day which falls today (September 27). The celebration was held in three stages, it consisted of special guides including full information about Sri Dalada Maligawa and Kandy, cultural events, upcountry culture and various activities to educate the tourist community about Sri Lanka.
Foreign tourists were also given the opportunity to treat the elephants of Sri Dalada Maligawa. On the occasion of World Tourism Day, many foreigners representing different countries of the world joined the special celebrations organized by the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy through the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
