Early Morning Procession and Water cutting ceremony of 2024
The Grand Randoli procession of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2024 returned to the temple after parading the streets on 19th August 2024 on Nikini full moon Poya day, paying homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic & also the four guardian deities. Then at the auspicious time of 12.24 a.m, the Relic Casket was reverentially carried in a procession to the Asgiriya Gedige temple and kept there observing an age-old ritual. The Dewala processions of the four shrines reached the Dewala premises yesterday and then took off to Gatambe and performed the ritual of water cutting ceremony in the bank of Mahaweli river. Thousands of crowds gathered near Mahavaly river side at Gatambe to witness this event.
