Galmaduwa temple situatedmidway in Kandy – DiganaKundasale route is a special Buddhist temple. This temple built during 1748 – 1782 period by king Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe the last king of the Kandyan kingdom is believed to be the only Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka with the structure of a Hindu temple. Entire temple is built using rock hence it’s called a “Gedige”. The name “Galmaduwa” is due to its square shape and rocky structure. This temple was built on the request of his queen who was a Hindu devotee. The architecture is of South Indian Pallava style with the influence of the king being of South Indian Nayakkar origin and the queen being Hindu.The frescoes are of Kandyan era adorned with lotus flowers.
මහනුවර – දිගන කුණ්ඩසාලේ පාරේ මද දුරක් යනවිට හමුවන ගල්මඩුව විහාරය මහනුවර ඇති විශේෂ වටිනා බෞද්ධ සිද්ධස්ථානයකි. මහනුවර අවසන් රජු වන කීර්ති ශ්‍රී රාජසිංහ රජු විසින් ක්‍රි.ව.1748-1782 කලසීමාව තුල ඉදිකර ඇති ගල්මඩුව විහාරය ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුල පිහිටි එකම හින්දු කොවිල් අකෘතිය සහිත බෞද්ධ විහාරය වේ. සම්පූර්ණ ගලින් නිමවා ඇති මෙම විහාරය ගෙඩිගේ සම්ප්‍රදායට අයත් විහාරයක් ලෙස ද සැලකේ. ගලින් නිමවා ඇති චතුරස්‍රාකාර ගෘහයක් බවින් ගල්මඩුව නම ලැබී ඇති බවද සැලකේ. කීර්ති ශ්‍රී රජසිංහ රජ බිසවගේ ඉල්ලීමකට අනුව මෙය නිර්මාණය කර ඇති බවට සඳහන් ය. .මෙතුමා උපතින් නයක්කාර වංශිකයෙක් වූ නිසාත්, බිසව හින්දු කාන්තාවක් වූ නිසාත් මෙම විහාරය දකුණු ඉන්දීය පල්ලව සම්ප්‍රදායට අනුව ඉදිවී ඇත.විහාරයේ මහනුවර යුගයට අයත් කලා සම්ප්‍රදායන් ඇත. ඒ අතර, සත්සතිය, සොළොස්මස්ථාන, මහා සංඝරත්නය හා අහස් වියන, නෙළුම් මල්වලින් අලංකාර කර ඇත.
