The ancient Dehippawa Royal Temple is situated about 10 miles away from the famous Rangiri Dambulla Cave temple. It’s believed to be dating back to the era of king Dewanampiyatissa as per the folk tales. The place is rich with ruins of a Stupa, rock inscription and ponds with much archeological value. The image house is full of frescos from the Kandyan era. It’s believed that this place was renovated from time to time by the ruling kings.
අතීතයේ සිට පැවතෙන පින් බිමක් ලෙස ප්‍රකට දෙහිප්පාව රාජ මහ විහාරය ඓතිහාසික රංගිරි දඹුලු ලෙන් විහාරයට සැතපුම් දහයක් පමණ නුදුරින් පිහිටි පූද බිමකී. දේවානමිපියතිස්ස රජුගේ පාලන සමයේ ගොඩ නංවා ඇතැයි ජනප්‍රවාදවල දැක්වෙන් මෙම පුදබිමේ ස්තූපය, සෙල්ලිපි, ස්භාවික පොකුණු ආදී පුරාවිද්‍යා වටිනාකම් රැසක්
අදටත් ශේෂව පවතී. ප්‍රතිමා ගෘහය තුල මහනුවර යුගයේ විහාර බිතු සිතුවම් චිත්‍රනය කර ඇත. ලංකාව පාලනය කළ රජවරුන් අතින් විටින් විට මෙම පුද බිමේ ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කටයුතු සිදුකර ඇති බව කියැවේ.
