<p>It is not strange for the artistes and the tuskers to walk on the procession path. But the ceremonial tusker walks on a cloth carpet. Laying of the cloth carpet commence from the Maligawa and it ceases after the casket without the sacred Tooth Relic returns to the temple. This is the only occasion in the world where a ceremonial tusker walks on a cloth carpet.</p>

Chamara Dancers

<p>Fanning yak tails to the sacred Tooth Relic is an honor. As an honor to the casket carrying the sacred Tooth Relic the Chamara Dancers perform in the procession. They fan the Yak tails to a rhythm and the slight breeze it produces brings a pleasant feeling to the spectators.</p>

Coconut Flower Dancers

Coconut Flower is the symbol of prosperity. That is because they decorate the Punkalasa with Coconut flowers. The purpose of the Dalada Perahara is to wish prosperity to the country. To symbolize this, dancers carry coconut flowers in their hands. They perform a simple dance reciting verses changing the coconut flower from hand to hand.
